The Holding
Makara was not founded at a boardroom table — it grew out of a room, and out of a remark.
The name was given two days before opening
A venue called “Şamata” was taken over in Beşiktaş and needed a new name; the opening was two days away. Someone lost patience — in Turkish, “stop makara-ing around and find a name” — and the name stayed inside that sentence. What is today the holding's name began as a line thrown across an evening table. The holding grew the same way: one room, then another.
Today 15 businesses are operating across 3 lines, and a further 23 brands sit in the portfolio's past — places that opened, ran for years, and were then handed over or closed. Since that room the holding has done the same work: opening a place, running it, keeping it standing.

Each business appears under its own name and character. The holding name is not in the window — what is shared is operating discipline, not signage.
The table and the keys
Hosting does not end at the table. The car that brings a guest to dinner carries them across the city the next morning; the arms were built to feed one another.
